The Daily Fix: Sourav Ganguly and Co will need a strong reason to reject Ravi Shastri again

The former Indian cricket player and team manager Ravi Shastri said Tuesday that he would throw his name on the hat for the men’s cricket team coach. Anil Kumble June 20, a year at work, after weeks of speculation about a distance between him and captain Virat Kohli. On the other hand, it was Shastri who paved the way for Kumble years ago.

After initially declined to submit his candidacy for the post, Shastri Tuesday agreed to be part of the process, and there are several reasons to think he is the big favorite. Shastri, it is believed, gets along well with Kohli. After a tumultuous year with Kumble, the captain of India wants to have a normal relationship with the one who is going to come on board as the new coach.

Shastri is proven, having come as a team manager to a point where India was at a very similar crossroads when asked former coach Duncan Fletcher to resign. Shastri then led India to the World Cup semi-finals of 2015 and 2016. The 55-year-old Twenty20 World has the obvious advantage over other candidates because they do not need time to install since they know that the Equipment and configuration.

Shastri may be the pilot of the post, but his reinstatement in the Indian system may not be as simple, given the events that took place before Kumble’s appointment in 2016.

What a career as a team leader, Shastri had applied for the position of head coach last year. The lawsuit, however, failed to collect. Among the various reports that have been floating around his rejection, it was widely stated that former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly, who was one of the interviewers, disagreed with Shastri. Ganguly had even skipped the Shastri maintenance, adding additional fuel to the speculation.

Shastri will sit before the Cricket Control Board on India’s Cricket Advisory Committee, composed of Ganguly, Sachin Tendulkar, and VVS Laxman, and resume their case. The circumstances, however, have changed since last year. Time has ended for the Indian team before the 2019 World Cup. After failing to resolve the distance between Kohli and Kumble, it is imperative that the new coach is a smooth transition, as he will receive only two years before Great tournament

Picking up Shastri seems to be the safest option for the Cricket Advisory Committee at this stage, unless they feel as strongly as they did last year. The decision to extend the deadline for applications for the post also indicates that the committee was not very enthusiastic about the candidates, who included former Indian worker Virender Sehwag and former Australian captain Tom Moody.

With Shastri now in the fray, the Cricket Advisory Committee will need a very strong reason to reject it once again.
